Frequently Asked Questions

Will It Hurt?

We will be as gentle as possible. The periodontal exam can be completed with little or no discomfort.

Do I Need X-Rays?

We will need current diagnostic x-rays in order to see disease not otherwise visible. If your referring dentist has taken x-rays, you may request that they be forwarded to us or you may obtain them and bring them to your first visit.

What Will It Cost?

Since all cases are different, our team must complete your examination before establishing your treatment planning and the fee for care. The fee for periodontal treatment can vary considerably depending on the type of problems and the complexity and length of treatment. An approximate fee can usually be determined at the initial visit; but on occasion, some initial treatment or further diagnostics must be completed before the final treatment planning can be established. Our philosophy of practice is to treat as conservatively as possible to attain treatment goals.

Will My Insurance Cover The Cost?

Most dental insurance policies include benefits for periodontal and implant treatment. Although it is not required by most plans prior to treatment, we will submit a predetermination of benefits to your insurance carrier. While these plans are intended to assist you financially in obtaining necessary care, your benefits do not typically cover all required services. We will work to maximize your coverage; however, you must accept financial responsibility for your healthcare.

Will I Need Surgery?

Not everyone needs periodontal surgery. If detected and treated early, gum disease can often be controlled without surgery. We will make recommendations based on your individual situation. Our philosophy of practice is to treat as conservatively as possible to attain treatment goals.

Can My Teeth Be Saved?

The recent advances in periodontal treatment allow us to treat most teeth successfully. Should this not be possible for some or all of your teeth, dental implants are an excellent alternative for most patients. A complete evaluation is essential to determining to best of course of treatment for your particular dental situation.

What If I Don’t Pursue Treatment?

Periodontal disease is a progressive, painless infection. Delay in treatment can lead to further bone loss and gum recession, limit treatment options and contribute to the development and progression of other systemic diseases. Over time, untreated periodontal disease may lead to tooth loss and additional health problems.
